Well, they are a major deal in helping search engines understand what your page is all about. Furthermore, they are the first impression many people have of your page and are used in three key places: (1) search engine results pages (SERPs), (2) web browsers, and (3) social networks.

Search engine result pages

The chosen title tag defines your display title in SERPs and even if your site ranks well, a good title can be the decisive factor in defining whether or not someone clicks on your link.

Web browsers

Choose the length wisely

Avoid writing long titles because search engines may cut them off by introducing an ellipsis (“…”) and could end up omitting important words you wanted there. The general recommendation is to stick to titles under 60 characters long, although the more exact limit is a bit more intricate and is based on a 600-pixel container so try to also avoid ALL CAPS titles and get more room for your ideas.

Don’t overdo SEO keywords

Give every page a unique title

Unique titles assist search engines better understand the uniqueness and the value of your content and also boost higher click-through rates.

Put important keywords or famous brand name first

Keywords closer to the beginning of your title tag may have more impact on search rankings so if you have a strong, well-known brand, then adding it to your titles may help enhance click-through rates.
